BEST COMMERCIAL EVER
6:43 am in Cinema, Flip Side, Funny, Interesting, Pop Culture, Science Fiction by Faceless Librarian
Normally, I hate advertisement. It’s usually non-creative bullshit shat out by corporate executives with no ability to come up with anything original
I said “usually.” Then a commercial like this comes a long. All I can say is, I think I need to buy some shoes.
HUGS!

I can’t explain why, but I am a total freak for octopi. Yes, I said octopi. I’m a cranky old man and back in my day, kids were taught that the plural of octopus is octopi, dammit. Octopuses. That doesn’t even look right to me. It’s kinda like moose. See that? MOOSE. That’s the plural of moose. One moose. Two moose. Anyone speaking of mooses is goddamn insane.
But I digress.
Octopi are curiously smart cephalopods. They can figure out how to open jars, how to get food from the outside of their tanks. There have been numerous cases where a captive octopus plays pranks on its keepers. Their only problem? Long term memory- they don’t have one. So today’s octopus figures out how to open a jar of food. Then tomorrow, the poor thing will have to figure it out all over again. Then again, I think that’s also a sign of intelligence. Okay, so they can’t remember something, but they’re smart enough to figure it out over and over again. Not bad really.

Looks Like A Man’s Walk To Me
8:40 pm in Interesting, Science, Science Fiction by Faceless Librarian
I’m not going to get into the whole Bigfoot or Sasquatch thing because, quite frankly, it’s stupid. But there’s a classic piece of film often used as “evidence” of the creature’s existence because the creature in the film doesn’t walk like a man. Or at least that’s the story. Obviously it’s a bit hard to tell when the camera shooting the film is bobbing up and down like a porn starlet blowing her co-star. However, there are ways to go through the thing frame by frame and steady it. When you do, you get this:

I like Mythbusters.
I like Legos.
So yeah, this is pretty decent mix of awesome for me. I they started making Mythbusters themed Lego sets, I’d pretty much have to buy the sets with Kari Byron all of them.

And Now… A Yokozuna Sings Journey

In the art of sumo, the champion is called the yokozuna. This signifies that they have the highest rank in professional sumo competition. For a while this title was held by an American – a Hawai’ian named Chad Rowan. In Japan he was known Akebono Taro and he was one of the best the sport has ever seen.
Why am I telling you this?
So you’ll know how random, awesome, and funny it is to see him promoting the TV show Glee in Japan.
Ladies and gentlemen, Akebono.
Self Defense Flashlight
8:53 am in Interesting by Faceless Librarian
Maglight has been selling self defense torches for years. Security companies and various rent-a-cop agencies have used them for just as long to get around the laws that state that certain people shouldn’t be armed and that rent-a-cops are not real cops and thus not allowed to carry firearms or real weapons until they can prove that they can handle them. Ostensibly the Maglight is just a flashlight. Granted it’s got an all metal body, length, and a knob at the top of the torch which makes it into a club, but really, it’s only a flashlight; right?
Well you and I both know that’s bullshit. It’s a frigging club and that’s what it’s designed to be. The torch components are afterthoughts. So I say, if you’re going to carry a stupid flashlight for self defense, then you need one of these bastards.
You Think You Know This Guy?

You know what this is, besides a rather beautiful picture?
It’s a landscape painted by Bob Ross. You know, the guy with the fuzzy hair and the soft voice. Ross became a sort of icon in the world of art because of his show on pubic television. People learned to paint by watching him, and others who had no desire to learn landscape painting enjoyed watching him too. Me, I never wanted to paint landscapes, but it was always a joy to watch that man work. First, he was a damn good painter and second, he really enjoyed his job. For some reason, I like watching people who are good at what they do and happen to enjoy it too.
So you think you know Bob Ross? Turns out, you probably don’t.

Fascinating stuff really. Actually I think almost anything from the past that predicts what today is supposed to be like is beyond fascinating. It’s downright exhilerating.
Speaking of which, it’s damn near 2010. Where are all the aliens, flying cars, and jetpacks dammit?
It Doesn’t Need A Reason
9:14 pm in Art, Interesting, Randomness by Faceless Librarian
Art doesn’t need a reason to do something and it doesn’t have to have a point…
Which is an apt description of this thing.
